Unspool streams temporary media to browser-managed disk storage instead of keeping the whole movie in memory. Tests have saved an 11 GiB direct file and joined an HLS stream into an 11.98 GB MP4. Available disk space, browser resources and the source still set practical limits. Allow roughly twice the final file size in free space.
No. It supports direct video files, finished HLS streams and static single-period DASH. Live streams, DRM/sample encryption, multi-period DASH, subtitles and selectable alternate audio are not supported. Some sites block new media requests even while playback works. A pasted blob: address alone is not a downloadable stream.
Media requests go from your browser to the source server. Unspool has no account, analytics or media upload service. Request details stay in browser session storage; internal recovery records omit source URLs and headers. Temporary media is cleared after saving. Files you save stay in your chosen download location.
Yes. Reopen it for progress or cancellation. Keep the browser running: browser shutdown interrupts a download and source transfers do not resume automatically. If the final save is interrupted, you can retry the export from the popup.
A current desktop Chrome or Microsoft Edge on Windows, macOS or Linux. The minimum API version is Chrome 120. Routine tests run in Chromium on Windows and Ubuntu. Firefox, Safari and mobile browsers are not supported by this version.
Save media you own or have permission to download. Unspool does not remove DRM.
